A feasibility study has researched potential sites and their stories for a tour of Carmarthenshire places to tell a the story of the ‘Carmarthenshire Enlightenment’ initiated by Griffith Jones in the eighteenth century. It led to Wales becoming ‘the most literate nation in Europe’; to a religious revival; to a strengthening of the Welsh language; and, some would add, to Welsh pride.
Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society has agreed to take the lead on the project and to invest in it.
We are now looking for funding for plaques and interpretative boards at Llanddowror itself and at Laugharne, Pendine, Eglwys Gymyn, St Clears, Carmarthen and Llandyfaelog.
