This photo shows the interior of Llanddowror Church. The impressive memorials on the north wall are to Griffith Jones and his sponsor and successor, Madam Bevan. Near the altar is the actual tombstone of Griffith Jones. This was his church for 50 years in the eighteenth century. But his impact was nationwide – through the Circulating Charity Schools, which spread to every County in Wales reinforcing the Welsh language, distributing bibles and other religious texts in Welsh; and through his preaching, which inspired many followers and even gave birth, unintentionally, to the Welsh Methodist movement.
The Griffith Jones Heritage/Faith Carmarthenshire Tour Project aims to make places which reflect aspects of that Movement accessible and with information for the general public, visitors and schools to come to understand its significant contribution to the heritage of Wales as a whole.
